As a women’s health coach, I’m often asked, “What’s one thing I can do at home to reduce inflammation without medication?” My answer is almost always the same: try a castor oil pack.
I know, it sounds too simple-but castor oil has become a non-negotiable in my own wellness routine, and I’ve seen it change lives. Let me explain how:
From Skeptic to Superfan: My Personal Castor Oil Story
I first tried castor oil out of desperation. I was struggling with persistent bloating, pelvic discomfort, and poor sleepduring a particularly stressful period in my life. A fellow coach recommended using a warm castor oil pack over my abdomen before bed.
I’ll be honest-I was skeptical. But by the third night, my bloating had noticeably reduced, and I was sleeping more deeply than I had in weeks. After a month of regular use, I felt lighter, less inflamed, and more in tune with my cycle. That was years ago-and I’ve been using it ever since.
Client Case Study: Healing Hormonal Inflammation Naturally
One of my coaching clients, a 34-year-old mom of two, came to me with chronic PMS, tender breasts, and digestive issues that flared up around ovulation. We worked on nutrition and hydration first, but the real shift came when we added castor oil wraps three times a week to her protocol. She placed the pack over her liver and lower abdomen, alternating depending on symptoms. Within 2 cycles, her breast tenderness had decreased significantly, her digestion improved, and she felt more in control of her body. She now swears by her castor oil ritual-and so do I.
Why Castor Oil Works for Inflammation
The magic lies in ricinoleic acid, a unique fatty acid found in castor oil that’s been shown to:
Suppress pro-inflammatory compounds
Increase lymphatic circulation
Enhance blood flow to tissues
Support detoxification via the liver and gut
Provide natural pain relief
This makes castor oil incredibly effective for conditions like:
Period pain
Endometriosis
Bloating and constipation
Joint aches
Breast tenderness
Autoimmune flares
What is a Castor Oil Pack?
A castor oil pack is a cloth soaked in castor oil, placed on the body, and warmed with gentle heat to allow deep tissue absorption. You can use it on your abdomen, liver area, breasts, or joints, depending on your symptoms.
It’s not messy or complicated when you use a reusable wrap, which is why I added both a pure castor oil and a wrap kit to my online store.
How to Use It:
You’ll need:
A hot water bottle or heating pad
30–60 minutes of downtime
How-to:
Pour a few tablespoons of oil onto the pad or cloth.
Apply to the target area (abdomen, liver, breasts, joints).
Secure the wrap and apply heat.
Relax for 30–60 minutes.
Store your wrap in a sealed bag or container to reuse up to 10 times.
You can do this 2–3 times per week, or daily during flare-ups.
When to Use Castor Oil Packs
Around your period to reduce cramps
During ovulation to support hormonal balance
After a heavy meal or when constipated
When bloated or inflamed
For joint and muscle recovery post-training
As part of your self-care or detox routine
